Harry Dempsey - Understanding Kent State: The Disconsolate Phantoms of Lost Liberty
Harry Dempsey, who is in his 32nd year teaching at Ferris State University, will be sharing his experiences with the historic-turned-deadly protests at Kent State University on May 4, 1970.
Here is a portion of the synopsis of the presentation Dempsey will make here at Ferris in Music Center 122 on April 16 from 11 a.m. to 11:50 a.m.
The events at Kent that day led to protests on college campuses throughout the United States; a student strike causing more than 450 campuses across the country to close with both violent and non-violent demonstrations; and poured gasoline on the firestorm of bitter national debate regarding the Vietnam War. What happened that day, why students were killed, who they were, and the resolution of their murders are examined 39 years later.
