Softball Prepares For This Weekend's 2009 GLIAC Softball Tournament

The nationally sixth-ranked Ferris State University softball team has earned a berth in the 2009 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Softball Championship Tournament to be held May 1-3 and the third-seed Bulldogs will square off against sixth-seed Northwood in this Friday's (May 1) opening-round action in Midland, Mich.

The site for the 2009 conference tournament has been moved to Northwood University in Midland and will be played at the school's two on-campus fields. The annual tourney was originally scheduled to be held at Emerson Park's Currie Stadium complex in Midland, but severe flooding of the area forced the GLIAC Executive Council to approve the change in venue.

Ferris State, which is currently 32-6 overall and finished tied for second place in the GLIAC regular-season standings with an 18-4 league mark, takes on the Northwood Timberwolves (17-22 overall; 11-14 GLIAC) at 10 a.m. (EDT) in a first-round matchup at NU's Auxillary Field. The winner will advance to face the Saginaw Valley State-Tiffin winner at 4 p.m. (EDT) on the NU Auxillary Field.
