BIG RAPIDS - Ferris State University, and its fellow members of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association, has lost one of its members.
The University of Nebraska-Omaha has decided to leave the CCHA to join the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.
The departure of UNO is not a huge surprise, but is it the start of other changes that could impact both the CCHA and the WCHA in the years to come.
The Detroit Free Press announced the move by Nebraska-Omaha in a story posted on its Web site. The story does not include any comments from officials of the CCHA.

OMAHA, Neb. — Nebraska-Omaha and Bemidji State will join the Western Collegiate Hockey Association after this season, expanding the league to 12 teams.
UNO had been part of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association, and Bemidji State was with College Hockey America. The Beavers said the four-team CHA will disband after next season.
UNO entered the Michigan-based CCHA for the 1999-2000 season after the school’s efforts to join the WCHA stalled.
