Then and Now: Ferris Focuses on Civil Rights During MLK Week

This Year’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration at Ferris State University will focus on “The Jim Crow Era: Then and Now,” and give students and community members the opportunity to reflect upon race relations in the past and the relevancy of those issues today, the Big Rapids Pioneer reports. The celebration runs Monday through Thursday (Jan. 18 through 21). For a complete listing of events, visit http://www.ferris.edu/htmls/studentlife/minority. During the week, special activities and presentations will be given, including “Stories on Activism” by David Pilgrim, chief diversity officer, at 7 p.m. Jan. 19 in IRC 120. Pilgrim said he hopes the presentation will not only define what it means to be an activist but also challenge audience members to be activists.
