Don't Forget 'Whatever Happened to Idlewild, MI?' Presentation

BIG RAPIDS - Right here, in our backyard, is a historic area rich in black history.

Ferris State University's Office of Multicultural Student Services, as part of its 2010 Black History Month programming, is presenting "WHATEVER HAPPENED TO IDLEWILD, MI?" The event features a showing of the documentary of filmmaker Coy Davis followed by a discussion Tuesday, Feb. 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. in IRC 120.

The appearance of Davis at Ferris centers on a discussion of the the historic Idlewild community of Michigan. Once upon a time, Idlewild was considered a paradise and referred to by some people as "Las Vegas" for African-Americans who could escape from Jim Crow laws and enjoy themselves.

This event is free and open to the public.

Anyone with questions, or is in need of assistance to attend this event, should contact the Office of Multicultural Student Services at (231) 591-2617 at least 72 hours in advance.
