David Pilgrim, vice president for Diversity and Inclusion, gave a presentation on one of his areas of expertise as part of New Faculty Orientation Week at Ferris State University on Wednesday (Aug. 18).
Pilgrim's presentation was titled "Creating a Truly Diverse University." He shared with the new faculty members present in IRC the University's vision and efforts to become an institution where "diversity, in its many forms, is understood, respected and valued."
New Faculty Orientation Week was hosted by the Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning at Ferris State.
Pilgrim addressed the following questions:
- How do we create environments for student learning that are inclusive of and sensitive to a diverse population?
- How can we incorporate diversity into our courses?
- How do we manage issues related to engaging students in discussion about issues of diversity?
