We're In The Midst Of International Week At Ferris State University

The Office of International Education is celebrating International Week on the Ferris State University campus in Big Rapids this week.

The week of activities kicked off on Monday with International Kids Cultural Day in the Student Recreation Center.

Events continue throughout the week with dynamic speakers and can't-miss presentations.

"OIE has planned a total of 12 events during the week," wrote Piram Prakasam, director of OIE. "The International Week activities include several speakers, panel discussions, open dialogs, workshops, cultural activities, community outreach efforts, fund raising and a reception for International Visitors from Thailand."

Here are highlights of key events this week:

Tuesday, Oct. 12
  • Russian Experts Yuri Maltsev, Christian Peterson, Jack Segal, Karen Puschel and Tracy Busch will be engaging our Campus on Russia; sponsored by the Globalization Initiative, PEP and OIE. (Talk at 11 a.m. in BUS 111, Open Dialog at 2 p.m. PM in FLITE 408 and a Panel discussion at 5:30 p.m. in IRC 120)
  • A Dale Rumsbarger, recruiter from the US State Department will visit FSU to lead a small group discussion on Foreign Services and recruit students.(Talk at 5 p.m. PM in FLITE 133)
  • Ten faculty members from a Thailand University (RMUTK in Bangkok) are visiting FSU. In honor of their visit, OIE is hosting a reception at 7 p.m. in FLITE 240. (Event for FSU staff and faculty only)
Wednesday, Oct. 13
  • Claire Caldwell, International Student Advisor for a multi-national Oil company will give Cross-cultural training workshops (two sessions at 9 a.m. in IRC 121 and 2 p.m. in VFS/Allied Health 325)
  • James Brosam II, CEO of ICEC will give a talk on Study Abroad. (Talk at 6 p.m. in College of Business 211)
Thursday, Oct. 14
  • Study Abroad Fair for students (10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 2 to 5 p.m. in the Rankin Student Center Dome Room)
  • International Coffee hour to try free coffee from around the world. (2 to 5 p.m. in the Rankin Student Center Dome Room)
Friday, Oct. 15
  • Japanese Tea Ceremony by FSU Professor and Student at 11 a.m. in Rankin Centennial Room
  • One world, many faces: Benefit Dinner to raise funds that will be used to assist local school teachers to go on Study Abroad through FSU.
