Ferris State University's Board of Trustees Approves Campus Projects

The Ferris State University Board of Trustees approved several campus projects, including the relocation of Telecommunications, replacing part of the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system at the Rock Café and the demolition of Pennock Hall, the former home of the Michigan College of Optometry, during its meeting today (March 25).

The relocation of Telecommunications is part of the university’s planned renovation of the Rankin Student Center to become the new campus University Center. The project calls for Ferris’ Telecommunications and the university network infrastructure to be moved from the basement of Masselink Hall to Rankin.

Ferris State University Trustees Approve Renewal of Lease Agreement with GRCC

The Ferris State University Board of Trustees approved the renewal of a lease agreement with Grand Rapids Community College for space at the Applied Technology Center in Grand Rapids for up to four additional five-year terms during its meeting today (March 25). Ferris trustees also approved the award of an honorary Ferris doctorate in Business and Industry to Ken Mooyman and an honorary Doctor of Arts degree from Kendall College of Art and Design for Peter Lawrence to be awarded in May 2011.

Ferris and GRCC have had a lease agreement in place since 1989 and an initial 20-year lease term commenced on July 17, 1991 with four additional five-year automatic renewal terms. That agreement expires July 16, 2011 for the space located at 143 Bostwick NE, Grand Rapids. The first renewal commences on July 17, 2011.

Ferris Video Festival, Apr. 1

Club Volleyball Fundraiser, Mar. 27

Come support Ferris State Club Volleyball at Applebees on Sunday, March 27th for a delicious Pancake Breakfast!

The fundraiser will be held at Applebees from 8 to 10 a.m.

Coupons will be given out at the front door for a $5 pancake breakfast with bacon and hash browns to support the club team's trip to Houston for the National Championships.

Its all you can eat, so come show your support this Sunday!

Solo Circus, Mar. 25

Ferris State University's Entertainment Unlimited will be hosting Michael Dubois's hit show: Solo Circus.

DeBois will perform on Friday, March 25th at 8 p.m. in the Rankin Student Center Dome Room.

Solo Circus is a performance unlike any other: with a magician, juggler, comedian, and circus artist, where the ringmaster is the entire show!

This show has variety, high energy and a unique sense of humor that will keep everyone laughing to the final act.

Ferris State University Students Can Have Their Voices Heard At Lansing Blitz

Attention Ferris State University students: Let your voice be heard and join us for the Lansing Blitz this Thursday!

Who: All public university students
What: Bipartisan Higher Education Rally
When: Thursday, March 24 from 12 to 2 p.m.
Where: Capitol Building in Lansing
Why: In order to show legislators how important it is to fund higher education

Free transportation will be provided by Student Government. Sign up is based on a first come first serve basis. Please contact Denelle Schian at schiand@ferris.edu to placed on the sign up sheet. Student Government will also be providing a letter describing the event to participants, however any absence must be cleared with professors prior to the event. The bus will be in Lot 48 at 9 a.m. and will return to campus around 4:30 p.m.

'Who's Who' Discusses Living On Campus At Ferris State University



On this week’s episode of "Who's Who" host Terry Doyle discusses living on campus at Ferris State University.

Guests on this show are Paul Willard, Duane Roberts, and Byron Williams. The show topics include reasons to live on campus, the closing of Carlisle Hall and renovations to Ward Hall.

Willard also will talk about the new way students can sign housing contracts and choose their residence hall room.

Comedian Cristela Alonzo

From Comedy Central's "Live at Gothem," and "Last Comic Standing," Crisela Alonzo is soon to attend Ferris State University.

Alonzo will speak on Tuesday, Apr. 5 at 8 p.m. in the Rankin Student Center Dome Room.

She has performed stand-up in clubs and theatres across the country while appearing on Comedy Central's "Live at Gothem," NBC's "Last Comic Standing," the South Beach Comedy Festival and the Latino Laugh Festival. In addition she has also been a writer for shows on Comedy Central and MSN.

With a powerful and engaging presence, she quips on her favorite topics such as pop culture, music, video games, and her life growing up in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas.

First ever Electronic Music concert held at Ferris on Thursday, Mar. 31.

The concert will be held in the Wink Arena from 6 to 11 p.m.
Doors open at 6 p.m.

The first of four acts begin spinning shortly after the feature performance of The Glitch Mob with special guest Virtual Boy.

Cost to attend the event is $5.00 with a Ferris I.D. $10.00 without.

NAFA names Weichman President

Douglas Weichman graduated from Ferris State University with a Bachelor of Science in Automotive & Heavy Equipment Technology.

Weichman, the 2009 Public Sector Fleet Manager of the Year, has been named NAFA Fleet Management Association president. He will officially take over NAFA's current president Christopher Amos position, kicking off the NAFA's 2011 Institute & Expo on Saturday, Apr. 9 in Charlotte, N.C.

As a member since 1987, Weichman has been involved within the association's educational programs as well as with the Fuels & Technology Advisory Council. His career includes highlights as the creation of the NAFA Green Fleet Award, rejuvenating the student membership classification and starting the Student Advisory Task Force, working as an instructor for NAFA's Fleet Managements Seminar and participation in the development of several educational products.

Weichman has been the director of Fleet Management for Palm Beach County since 1990. Before that he was fleet manager for Miami-Dade County for 9 years.

Literature in Person Reading Series: Phillip Sterling

Come celebrate the publication of Ferris State University professor Phillip Sterling's collection of short fiction, titled "In Which Brief Stories are Told" on Saturday, March 26.

The event will be held at Great Lakes Book and Supply located at 840 Clark St. on from 2 to 4 p.m.

Readings, refreshments, raffles, book sales, signings, door prizes and special guests will be included.

The Chevrolet Volt To Be On Display At Ferris State University During Michigan Energy Conference

The 2011 Chevrolet Volt is set to zoom into Ferris State University’s fourth annual Michigan Energy Conference for display April 13 and 14.

This year’s conference will be held in the Holiday Inn and Conference Center in Big Rapids from 8 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. each night.

Kristin B. Zimmerman, of General Motors Research and Development and the Volt Infrastructure Team, will present the Volt at noon on April 13 in the exhibit hall of the Holiday Inn. Zimmerman will explain the vehicle’s significance and its energy-saving highlights.

Alpha Xi Delta is putting on their 2nd annual Football FrenXi Tournament!

It is open to anyone who would like to participate!

When: April 10th, 2010 11am-4:30pm

What: Flag Football Tournament

Where: Intramural Fields

How Much: $50 per team, 8-10 players on a team

Why: To help raise money for Autism Speaks

Get a group together and participate! There will be a men’s and a co-ed division!
