Ferris State Torch Job Fair Friday, April 20

The Ferris State University Torch student newspaper is hosting a job fair from noon to 3 p.m. Friday, April 20 to fill open staff positions.

Students interested in joining the award-winning staff should attend the event in the Rankin Student Center, Room 140. Mary Benson, the 2012-13 editor-in-chief, created the fair to encourage student involvement with campus news.

“The job fair she is doing is really unique. It’s a great idea,” said Torch advisor and professor Steven Fox. “I have students who are interested and are going to ask about certain positions. She’s pretty innovative in that way and proactive to build a strong staff.”

Current staff members will be available to answer questions about open positions. Interested students should bring a resume and portfolio samples for on-the-spot interviews. No experience is required. The Torch is looking to fill positions including: writer/reporter; advertising representatives; photographer; copy editor; production assistant.

Benson, current production manager for the Torch, said working for the student newspaper gives employees hands-on experience and is a great resume builder. She enjoys the dynamics of working in groups to help the students become better reporters.

“I’m very excited for the new school year, possible changes and keeping the traditions,” Benson said.

All positions are paid. For more information, visit http://www.fsutorch.com/work-at-the-torch/.
