Spring Break Important Information



Students will be on spring break next week but many Ferris State University offices will remain open while others will have reduced hours.

Residence halls will close at 5 p.m. Friday, March 8 and reopen 10 a.m. Sunday, March 17. The Rock Café and Westview Dining will be closed over the break and will reopen Sunday, March 17.

Business offices will be open during regular hours.

The James L. Lundberg bookstore will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 11-14. Regular business hours resume on Monday, March 18, when classes resume.

The Racquet and Fitness Center will remain open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. March 9-10; 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. March 11-15, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, March 16, and 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday, March 17.

FLITE hours will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 11-15.

The Student Recreation Center will be closed over break.

More important dates include mid semester recess Friday, March 29 to Monday, April 1. The final day of classes is Friday, May 3. Spring commencement will take place Friday, May 10 and Saturday, May 11.

FSU Jazz Band Winter Concert

The Ferris Jazz Band performs their Winter Concert today from 8 to 9 p.m located in the Williams Auditorium.

I Am Not Who You Think I Am

Ever receive a picture of a group of cartoon images or stick figure objects in which case you were most closely related to one in particular?

Possibly tagged in a picture on Facebook? 

While sitting at your computer you probably laughed maybe even agreed, little did you know you were being considered part of a stereotype in society.

Come hear about the different backgrounds and stereotypes that have been proven wrong 

as Bond Hall hosts "I Am Not Who You Think I Am"  from 7:30-8:15 p.m.

Vagina Monologues Performance Rescheduled

Due to the widespread power outage that affected over 16,000 residents in Big Rapids, Reed City, and Evart, the original performance date of "The Vagina Monologues" on Friday, March 1 was canceled.

Good news for those who want to help support the Women's Information Services, Inc. shelter in Big Rapids and help stand up against domestic violence is that the performance has been rescheduled to Thursday, April 25 at 7:30 p.m in Williams Auditorium. Doors open at 7 p.m.

If you purchased a ticket online prior to the event, you should have received a refund. Online ticket purchases will be available two weeks before the new performance date.

Don't forget that the Office of Multicultural Student Services will still be giving free tickets to the first 30 Ferris students with valid student I.D. Otherwise, tickets are still $5 for students with I.D. and $10 for the public.Get their early and save!

What if this were your last chance to see the show? The production is surely an event you don't want to miss out on.

"Tribute to Women" Award Show Tonight in Rankin Dome Room


Tonight at 6 p.m. in the Rankin Student Center Dome Room, come celebrate and honor remarkable women students, faculty, staff, and RSOs at the "Tribute to Women" award show. The annual show features presentations by Ferris students and organizations about influential women in history. The Office of Multicultural Student Services will also be recognizing Ferris students for their outstanding achievements on campus.

The following awards will be given this evening: 

Progressive Woman Award – This award is presented to a student who has displayed a commitment to and assisted with the creation and implementation of a particular program or issue of special relevance to women to improve the quality of life for women.

Professional Woman Award – This award is presented to a woman who continues to personify and distinguish herself by displaying and promoting outstanding professionalism.

Academic Achievement Award – This honor is awarded to a woman who has shown notable growth and achievement relative to academics (current cumulative and past semester grade point averages are used to measure such accomplishment).

Philanthropy and Community Service Award – This honor is awarded to a woman who has displayed commitment, passion and support of causes for the community and community-based organizations.

Women Organization of Excellence Award – This award is presented to a woman-based organization that epitomizes leadership, scholarship, service and a commitment to diversity on campus.

The Asia Project feat. Asia Samson (Mar. 5)

Spoken word artist and cancer survivor, Asia Samson will be sharing his remarkable motivational life testimonial in Williams Auditorium on Tuesday, Mar. 5 from 7 to 8 p.m. 
Asia has been feautred on Russell Simmons’ HBO Def Poetry and Black Family Channel’s Spoken. He was named Performer of the Year in 2006 and booked over 185 college shows in 2010.

Samson battled testicular cancer in the early months of 2006. While recuperating from surgery, he made a vow to God that if he became healed, he would no longer take life for granted.
